Compost - organic, unsifted (Putney Farm)Grower: Putney Farm
Price: $10.00 ( 15 gallons dry-measured )Available (Estimated): 26
QUICKLY ADD ORGANIC MATTER matter to your garden!Unlike commercial fertilizers which dissipate
very quickly, poultry litter breaks down over a period of time
slowly releasing nutrients into the soil so that young plants
receive the maximum benefit through all stages of growth.
Chicken litter compost is ideal for tomatoes since they
need a slow release of nitrogen through all three stages of development.
LAWNS: Organic litter will take that spot which is sparsely covered
with grass and make it the greenest, lushest part of your lawn. At
the same time it kills out stickers and other unwanted weeds. It
is a great year round fertilizer, making lawns green even with
winter type grass. The soil will eventually become so fertile that
your lawn will be much easier to maintain. You can have the best
lawn on the block and be 100 % organic!
Tests on certain pathogens, such as E. coli, and on Gumboro and New Castle disease viruses show that they do not survive the pasteurizing effects of composting.
The nutrient content of the compost will vary depending upon the amount and nutrient content of the manure and straw, the age of the compost, and the method of storage. Compost samples analyzed by the University of Delaware had the following average analysis on an "as sampled basis":
Moisture .................................... 28%
Nitrogen (total )....................... 1.85%
ammonium nitrogen.........0.15%
organic nitrogen...............1.70%
P2O5 ........................................ 2.29%
K2O .......................................... 1.56%

Plant ~ Sweet Potato Beauregard starts/slipsGrower: Putney Farm
Price: $4.00 ( 4 Starts )Available (Exact): 10
Boil, steam, bake or fry. But Pre-order early/ plant when soil warms. Supply is limited, and when gone, there will be no more for the season.
Sweet potatoes require a long hot period, so, as soon as the soil warms, plant them.
Easy to grow in any well drained soil.
Starts (or slips) of sweet potato will produce several potatoes in one mound.
Sweet potato plants are very sensitive to cold. They should not be planted outdoors until the soil has warmed up to at least 60 degrees F. and nighttime temperatures are above 60 degrees F. To help heat up the soil, black plastic can be spread over the planting area for a couple weeks before planting.
Newly-planted sweet potato slips should be protected from cool spring nights. For the first three to four weeks after planting, keep the plants covered with garden fabric to reduce stress and speed early growth.
Don't fertilize your sweet potatoes at planting time — they don't require much in the way of nutrients. An excess of nitrogen will encourage leafy growth rather than big tubers. via Gardner's Supply

Plants ~ Holy Basil ~ TulsiGrower: Putney Farm
Price: $5.00 ( Tulsi plant in 4" pot with soil. )Available (Exact): 3
Don't buy expensive Tulsi seeds; grow your own. Our Tulsi, or Holy Basil, reseeds itself in our zone 7b-8a garden, although it takes so long (into July) for some of the seeds to germinate that I give up on them every year; then they pop up and surprise me.
Ayurveda refers to tulsi or Holy Basil as “the incomparable one,” “mother medicine of nature” and “the queen of herbs”. It is revered as an elixir of life for both its medicinal and spiritual properties. It belongs to the mint family and has two main varieties. The greener variety is called Rama Tulsi and the greenish black variety is called Krishna Tulsi. Holy Basil, Ocimum sanctum, should not be confused with Sweet Basil, Ocimum basilicum, which is commonly used for culinary purposes.
Of course, do your own research as well as consult with your own practitioner before consuming any herb known as medicinal.
